About Jimmer

Jimmer McDonald began his career as a Bering Sea crab fisherman 40 years ago. A descendent of a long line of fishermen, Jimmer worked with his father on the Pacific Fisher in 1967 and then joined the Navy during Vietnam as an engineman on board Submarines. He was asked by the Navy to take on the arduous task of Navy Diver training shortly after his enlistment. With a drop out rate of 50%, Jimmer successfully completed the Navy's Training Course and continued to serve onboard the "USS Bonefish" until 1972.

He returned to Alaska and followed his dad out to Dutch Harbor to help him run his ferry service and pot storage business. Jimmer continued to fish the King Crab, Bairdi and Halibut fishery until 1982.

From a deck hand to a full fledge Captain, his career has spanned the gamut. You won't find anyone more qualified, experienced and deserving of the respect that Jimmer has attained through the years. He is a man of conscience, honesty, and integrity, and these are the qualities that his company is founded upon. His reputation speaks for itself.

In 2004, the corporation purchased the Miss Alyssa as a way to counter act the effect that rationalization will have on our local economy and the business as a whole. The original intention was to fish the local open access fisheries while they still exist with this vessel. The recent grounding and wreck of the Selendang Ayu put a major damper on the local and subsistence fishery, but the phone began to ring with requests for freight forwarding to local isolated communities. Then the researchers heard about us and word of mouth has created a whole new subdivision of the company. We now are focusing our efforts on the fine art of chartering.

About Alyssa

Alyssa McDonald came to Alaska first in 1984. During the summer breaks of her college years, she sang, danced and acted in a summer stock theater in Skagway, Alaska. Before the boom of tourism to Alaska, she fell in love with the state, and with the pioneering spirit of the people that lived here.

After 20 years as an entertainer, performing in 26 countries, all 50 states and under various corporate and government sponsorships, Alyssa discovered Dutch Harbor in 1995. Just two days after her arrival August 28th, 1995, she was asked to be the guest "star" of a fishing filmcrew out of Vancouver, Canada. They were in town, by chance, and were filming a fishing documentary called Gary Cooper's Fishing Diary. It was on this day that she caught her first Halibut, a 142 pound whopper. The fish was hooked and so was she!

Alyssa brings special talents to this island in the Aleutians. Not only does she have expertise in Entertaining, but she has years of planning logistics for her own traveling groups. Coupled together with a background in finance, she adds a level of professionalism and flexibility that make her a joy to work with in the office. If you have a complicated tour and a scope of work that seems impossible to put together, you will find that if it can be coordinated at all, then she can do it!
